Effect of planting materials of Giant Kew and Honey Queen cultivars of pineapple on the growth and yield was studied at the Fruit Research Station, Jaintiapur, Sylhet during November 1986 to August 1988. Significantly higher number (65.00%) of Honey Queen plants flowered in the first season compared to those of Giant Kew cultivar (56.67%). However, plants grown from crowns of Giant Kew exhibited more flowering (86.25%) in the first season followed by plants raised from shoot suckers (65.50) and slips (21.25). In Honey Queen plants, higher percentage of flowering occurred in plants raised from shoot suckers (82.50%) followed by plants raised from crowns (72.50) and slips (40.0). Plants grown from slips produced significantly lower yield (6.60 t/ha) compared to plants from crowns (22.29) and shoot suckers (20.39). Fruits produced by plants from slips had significantly higher percentage of TSS (18.45) than those grown from crowns (15.54) and shoot suckers (12.91). The interaction effect of cultivar and planting material was significant only in flowering percentage and fruit yield.
