Effect of light intensity on content of soluble sugar, starch and ginseng saponin in ginseng plants

The content of soluble sugar, starch and ginseng saponin were measured in ginseng plants grown under 5%, 20%, 35%, and 50% light transmission rate (LTR), and the results showed that there was no obvious difference in soluble sugar content in ginseng plants grown under different light intensity, but starch content was increased with the increase of light intensity. The highest soluble sugar and starch content were measured in root of ginseng. Starch content decreased in order of leaf, petiole, stem, and soluble content in leaf and stem were higher than in petiole. ginseng saponin content increased with the increase of starch content in root under 5% and 20% LTR and decreased with it Under 35% and 50% LTR.
