Several garden pea varieties have been bred at the Jogeva Plant Breeding Station. Currently our first purpose in breeding work is to develop new early-ripening (2...3 days earlier than the standard variety "Gribovi 11") high-yielding and quality varieties. The second purpose is to obtain new medium-ripening varieties, which are more disease-resistant than the standard variety "Looming". The new varieties must be suitable for producing canned peas. Our research results showed that the best starting material for breeding was obtained from the early-ripening varieties: "Gloriosa", "Gribovi 11", "Kelvedon Wonder"; from the medium-early-ripening varieties "Stratagema", "Looming" etc. In the final trials we had several new breeding lines: the early-ripening N. 870 and N. 931; the medium-ripening N. 431 and N.900. This breeding material could successfully compete in yield with the standard varieties
