Application of the EUROP pig-classification system in Greece

In Greece, pig carcasses were traded without any quality classification. From January 1991 every slaughter house of the E.C. countries, with a capacity of over 200 pigs per week is obliged to have, according to E.C. directives, an objective classification system. It is believed that these regulations will improve the quality classification of pig carcasses are described. Data of measurements carried out with the HGP during the first eight months of 1990 are presented. Moreover the HGP classification system is compared with the two point classification method which is considered to be a simpler one.
