Two clones of Valencia oranges grown in the region of Aeghialia

Comparisons were made of the physical characters and the chemical composition of two clones of Valencia oranges, Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck, which were located in Valencia orchard in the region of Aeghion in Northern Peloponnisos. The one clone has fruits long to oval ("Oval" Valencia) and other gives fruits of round (spherical) shape ("Round" Valencia). Fruits samples of 20 fruits from the 4-tree plot of each clone were collected at one month intervals during the period from January 31 to June 30, 1978 and were taken to the laboratory for maturity and quality analyses. The results are taken from the different analyses indicated that the clone "Oval" Valencia had a better rind color, a better fruit shape and matured a month earlier than the clone "Round" Valencia.
