A survey of ectoparasites in sheep and goats

In a survey for ectoparasites including 753 and 698 sheep and goats, the following parasites were recorded:- 1.Sheep: two species of mites, Psoroptes ovis and Sarcoptes scabiei var ovis. In the present study three genera of ticks were identified namely, Rhipicephalus, Hyalomma and Boophilus. Three species of lice were identified, namely Linognathus africanus, Damalinia ovis and L. pedelis. 2.Goats: The only mange parasitic species recorded was Sarcoptes scabiei var caprae. As for ticks, the goats were infested with same genera as on the sheep. Two species of lice were identified on goats, namely Linognathus stenopsis and Damalinia caprae
