Interactive effect of soil salinity and potassium fertilizer on the growth and salt tolerance of corn (Zea mays)

Four different levels of potassium fertilizer were prepared and applied to each salinity treatment. The obtained results indicated that the dry matter weight of corn was significantly reduced with salinity increase, but there was significant increase in the dry matter weight when potassium fertilizer was applied. The highest dry matter weight was obtained when 240 and 360 kg/ha were applied to sandy loam soil and silty clay loam soil respectively. The results showed that application of potassium fertilizer caused an increase in the tolerance of corn to salinity
