Fifty one species and 3 subspecies of tabanid flies belonging to 10 genera were recognized by the examination of the specimens preserved at the Plant-Pathogene and Insect Museum of the National Institute of Agro-Environmental Sciences. 19 type specimens including subspecies and varieties were stored in this place. Atylotus sp. from Ooiso, Kanagawa Prefecture may be new to science. Nagatomyia melanica from Kanto District, Silvius dorsalis from Tohkai District, Chrysops japonicus from Oki Island and Hirosia iyoensis from Tohkai District were newly recorded. Hybomitra tarandina and Atylotus ozensis, which were collected so far only from Ozega-hara, were recorded from other places in Gunma Prefecture. Tabanus matsuzawai from Kohchi Prefecture, Isshikia yajimai from fukuoka Prefecture and Haematopota rufipennis from Tokushima Prefecture were new distribution records
