Screening of rice/selections/varieties for resistance to brown spot (Helminthosporium oryzae) in Zamboanga City (wet season, 1992) [Philippines]
1994
Ducanes, A.A. | Pedroso, J.P. | Yumol, R.D.
Results revealed that lowland entries including Bordagol (farmer's variety) were moderately susceptible (3.0) and susceptible (5.0) at seedling and booting stage respectively. Severity increases as crop matures. No significant differences exist among entries at each growth stage, however, at ripening, severity infection vary significantly. Yield was slightly affected by BS [brown spot]. Of the varieties, BPIRi 10 and PSBRC4 showed moderate reaction to BS. The rest of the varieties were susceptible to infection. Lowland rainfed entries/varieties on the other hand, were highly susceptible to BS. Yield in kg/ha was significantly low. Insufficient water supply affected yield other than brown spot disease
