The crossability in barley x wheat combinations ranged from 0.00 to 4.76 percent, while that in wheat x barley combinations from 0.00 to 6.07 percent of pollinated florets. The hybrids were morphologically wheat-like and showed good vegetative viability. Most of the hybrids from both directions had a somatic chromosome number 2n=28. The chiasma frequency per cell varied from 0.14 to 1.31 in barley-wheat and from 0.25 to 5.14 in wheat-barley hybrids. Propagation by tissue culture revealed the genotype specifity of regeneration ability. Chromosome doubling attempts through in vitro callus culture of hybrid tissue and by colchicine treatment have failed
