Theoretical background for ecological evaluation on soil microbial resources

Different approaches to investigation of microbial diversity are developed in Moscow State University [Russian Federation], Soil Biology Department during last years. The geographical approach includes a comparative analysis of microbial taxomonic composition in different natural zones. The stratificational approach contains a simultaneous investigation of microbial communities in all ecosystem's structural layers, namely phyllosphere, aboveground substrata (mosses, litter etc.), and soil. The microlocal approach strives for exposition of specific spatially limited microhabitats where unique microbial groupings are formed. The successional approach investigates a naturally determined temporal changes in microbial community structures. Using of these approaches allows to elucidate some fundamental conformities in spatial-temporal organization of microbial communities. These approaches also increase significantly a diversity of investigated microbes by including of the maximal number of habitats in consideration.
