Energy supply in highly productive cows during the summer feeding regime on pasture

The possibility to provide highly productive cows with energy in summer ration on pasture has been studied by determining urea in milk and blood. Sixty cows in the early period of lactation in groups of 15 animals were included in the trial. Pasture in May, June, July and September was considered. All groups were also fed with hay, maize silage, beet pulp and the feeding mixture K12. In all four groups a surplus of proteins in the consumed rations and energy deficiency were found out. In three groups (June, July, September) the concentration of urea in milk and serum was increased
