Methods for testing corn seed viability

The viability of four corn seed hybrids (NSSC-370, NSSC-444, NSSC-606, NSSC-607) was tested by different vigour tests (cold test, hiltner test, accelerated aging test, intensity growth test and complex stress vigour test) compared with laboratory and field germination during 1988 and 1989. Low germination values for all tested hybrids were obtained by applied vigour tests. The highest correlation coefficient was found between field emergence and cold test (0.95; 0.94) and accelerating aging test (0.90; 0.89). The smallest correlation coefficient was found between field emergence and hiltner test (0.62; 0.64)
