Performances of Simmental cattle

The performances of Simmental breed of cattle regarding milk and meat production have been presented. The average milk production of that breed in Europe ranges from 3,650 to 6,116 kg, fat content from 3.66 to 4.19 and protein content from 3.26 to 3.39 per cent, respectively. In Yugoslavia the lactation milk yield amounts 4.029 kg with 3.85 per cent of fat. The daily live weight gains of young fattening Simmental cattle ranges from 1.091 g to 1.580 g in bulls and from 941 to 1.253 in heifers, with an average dressing percentage of 58.71. There is a tendency of decreasing number of Simmental cattle and replacing them by dairy genotypes. On the other side the Simmental cattle is more accepted as a beef breed
