The research was focused on poplar wood (Populus deltoides, cl. 618 and 457), planted in plantations with two spacing systems (2 x 1 m and 2 x 1.5 m) for the production of semichemical pulp. Poplar wood, aged six years, was examined. On the basis of the obtained results of wood properties it can be concluded that with aging chemical composition of wood is not considerably changed, but, on the other hand, a significant increase of mechanical properties can be observed. This primarily refers to CMT value, an important indicator for the quality of semichemical pulp, and paper obtained from it, respectively.
