Bacteria as protein carriers in agglutination assays

The paper deals with the application of bacteria Brucella abortus as a particular solid support that can be used as a protein carrier. Carbohydrate units of the bacterial surface were oxidised with NaIO4 and human IgG (immunoglobulin) molecules were covalently bound to the bacterial surface. Bacteria coated with human IgG were allowed to react with sheep anti human IgG serum in an agglutination assay. The results of the agglutination test confirmed that satisfactory activation of the bacterial and immobilization of human IgG can be achieved.
