[Preliminary remarks on the ticks (Acarina: Ixodoidea) of Belgium]

Until now 16 species of ticks have been identified from Belgium, of which 5 are new for this country. Amongst these species four do not belong to the Belgian fauna but had been introduced with their hosts. Attention is drawn to the role of some of these vectors, mainly Ixodes ricinus, in the transmission of diseases to man or domestic animals in Belgium.
