Podzoluvisols have an unstable water regime; they suffer from excessive moisture from top water after the melting of snow or abundant precipitation. However, in drought summers such soils may show a considerable water deficit. The mean precipitation of several years during the growth period of cereals is 260 mm while differences between various years may be 4...5-fold. Therefore, during the intensive growth period of cereals the water content of these soils in 50...75 per cent of years is below discontinuous capillary moisture. As a result of inadequate water supply the yields are by 0,5...1 Mg lower. Extremly arid was the year of 1992 when total precipitation from May till August was only 95 mm
