Efficiency of several herbicides in control of weeds in wheat

During 1990-92, the field trails were conducted to evaluate the efficiency of selected herbicides in controlling wild oat (Avena ludoviciana), canary grass (Phalaris minor) and charlock (Sinapis arvensis) in wheat. In two independent trials, fenoxaprop-p and imazamethabenz were compared with diclofop-methyl and tralkoxydim. In another trial, the effect of tribenuron- methyl, terbutryn+triasulfuron and imazamethabenz, on charlock were evaluated in comparison to 2, 4-D and broxynil. The results indicated that diclofop- methyl, fenoxaprop-p and imazamethabenz induced a mild chlorosis on young leaves of wheat cvs. Golestan and Khazar 1 a few days after application, but the plants completely recovered after four weeks. Efficacy of fenoxaprop-p at 75 and 90 g ai/ha and diclofop-methyl at 900 g ai/ha, in controlling wild oat was higher than the other graminicides used. On wild oat, imazamethabenz was not as effective as fenoxaprop-p and diclofop-methyl, but in comparison with weedy check it reduced the weed stand, significantly. Fenoxaprop-p, tralkoxydim and diclofop-methyl had significant effect in controlling canary grass, but imzamethabenz had no effect on this weed. In the field infested with wild oat, all of the graminicides except tralkoxydim, increased the grain yield significantly, while, in the field where canary grass was dominant, fenoxaprop-p, tralkoxydim and dicloprop-methyl, were equally effective in increasing the grain yield.
