Combining ability studies from 4 x 4 diallel crosses revealed that general combining ability (GCA) effects were highly significant in plant height, boll number, boll weight, seed cotton yield, seed index, lint index and staple length. The specific combining ability (SCA) effects were highly significant for boll weight and staple length. The reciprocal effects were significant for lint percentage only. Additive type of gene action was predominant for seed cotton yield, number of bolls per plant, plant height and lint index. The B557 was higher yielder and proved better general combiner for yield. Combination of H2918-2 and Coker was specifically better.
