The list of food plants for Halictus maculatus was compiled on the basis of observations carried out during 1960-92 and of literature. The list contained 116 plant species of 25 plant families. Species of Compositae were the most frequently visited. The main food plants for this bee species were Matricaria, Ranunculus and rape. This bee species may have the greatest importance for pollination of rape and probably also for lucerne. The nesting places of this Halictus species and also the Ranunculus and Matricaria plants growing near seed crops of rape and lucerne should be protected
