Accumulation of heavy metals in soils and root-vegetables from allotment gardens of Warszawa-Mokotow District

Heavy metals content was examined in soils and in root-vegetables sampled in 16 allotment gardens within Warszawa-Mokotow District. The content of Fe, Mn, and Co in soils was found to approximate the soil geochemical baseline value, while Zn, Cu, Pb, and Cd amounts were considered to be elevated. Only the soils in gardens alongside busy roads were more or less polluted by Zn, Pb, and Cd. The above-ground parts of vegetables contain more Fe, Zn, Mn, Cd than storage-roots
