Heavy metals concentration in the soil, water and plants in the emission region of copper foundry "Glogow"

The samples were collected in the distance of 2 and 5.5 km of emissing centrum. Atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) was used to measure the level of contamination soil, water and plants. The content of Cu and Pb in the soil and plants decreased proportionally to the distance from emission source. It was found that pollution of ground water was two times higher than that of surface waters. Due to the high level of Pb and Cd content, the ground water could not be used for drinking. The level of contamination depends on the kind of vegetable, for example the highest concentration of Pb and Cd was found in carrots and in red beets
