Investigations were carried out on the whole territory of Poland during years 1985-92. A total number of 708 specimens of free living and domestic ruminants were examined: 198 red deer, 136 roe deer, 15 fallow deer, 52 European bisons. 297 cattle and 10 sheep. During autopsy samples of tissues have been taken from the predilected places of filariae localisation, mainly after finding there females, which sometimes were seen with naked eye, or parasitic nodules. Samples were crumbled and put between two glasses of trichinoscopic compressor, and examined under stereoscope microscope. Nematodes or their fragments were isolated from the tissue using preparating needles under microscope control
