Otel, V. | Nalbant, T. | Banarescu, P. (Institutul de Cercetare si Proiectare Delta Dunarii, Tulcea (Romania))
During 1992-1994, numerous specimens of Neogobius eurycephalus have been collected in several areas of Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve , both in fresh water (Danube channels, Razim lake) and marine water (Black Sea). These species are one of the most frequent gobies in Danube channels, beside Neogobius fluviatilis, N. gymnotrachelus and Bentophylus stellatus. It has been found up to 5 km upstream from Tulcea. These gobies have been mentioned before as Gobius cephalarges and were found in the Black Sea, Danube estuary and Razim-Sinoe and Siutghiol lakes. According to the 1977 revision, Gobius cephalarges must be removed from the Romanian fauna and substituted with Negobius eurycephalus.
