Toxicity determination of selected plant growth hormones on germination and root growth of Sinapis alba seeds

The toxicity of 5 growth hormones, belonging to auxins and auxinoids [IAA-4-(indole-3-yl)acetic acid, 2,4-D - 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, MCPA - 4-chloro-2-methylphenoxyacetic acid, NAA - 1-naphtylacetic acid] and to cytokinins [IPA - N6-(delta sup(2) -isopentenyl)adenosine] was determined under standardized conditions on Sinapis alba seeds. The tests lasted 72 hours and the influence of herbicides on seed germination and root growth was observed. The rank order of toxicity of herbicides used for Sinapis alba seed germination was (from highest value to smallest) NAA, IPA, 2,4-D, MCPA, IAA and for root growth, NAA, 2,4-D, MCPA, IAA, IPA. For the inhibition of root growth, the LC50(I) values were in some cases (NAA, 2,4-D, MCPA) more than 100-times lower than LC50(G) values for germination.
