The chemical composition of natural pastures in Swaziland
1988
Ogwang, B.H.
Soil and forage samples were collected from various locations in the Middleveld of Swaziland and were analysed for Ca, K, Mg, Na, Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn. Levels for most of these minerals were found to be constant. When there were seasonal variations, nutrient levels were higher in the wet than dry season. The forage concentration of individual nutrients was not related to their content in the soil. Ca, Fe, and Mn levels in forage were adequate while K, P, Na, Cu, and Zn levels were low to deficient and would have to be provided to grazing livestock as supplements.
