Acute toxicity of benzalkonium chloride, copper chelate, malachite green and treflan on Penaeus monodon (Fabricius) larvae were conducted by using the static bioassay. The 24-hour median lethal concentration (24-h LC50) of benzalkonium chloride on protozoa 2, mysis 2, post larva 5 and post larva 18 were 0.31, 0.41, 0.65 and 3.02 ppm respectively. The 24-h LC50 of copper chelate on protozoa 2, mysis 2, post larva 5 and post larva 18 were 0.20, 0.31, 1.48 and 7.24 ppm respectively. The 24-h LC50 of malachite green on protozoa 2, mysis 2, post larva 5 and post larva 18 were 0.14, 0.19, 0.32 and 1.15 ppm respectively. The 24-h LC50 of treflan on protozoa 2, mysis 2, post larva 5 and post larva 18 were 1.39, 2.74, 3.17 and 4.67 ppm respectivley. Safe concentrations of these chemicals and the effect on water quality during acute toxicity studies are also discussed
