Thailand's export development of fresh fruits and vegetables

Objectives of this study are as follows : 1) to study the production and marketing of fresh fruits and vegetables; 2) to analyse important problems and obstacles 3) to formulate an analysis of variance and correlation analysis of exported quantity and price of fresh fruits and vegetables in regular market and target market groups and 4) to suggest ways and approaches to deal with these problems, with a view to expand exports to both regular markets and potential markets. In order to proceed to the above objectives, the researcher selected seven major. The data used in analyzing the situation will cover the years 1981 through 1987 with the emphasis on the existing major markets, such as, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore and new potential markets, such as Japan, France and the United Kingdom. Statistical methods particularly the variance and correlation analysis are applied in the present study. The quantities of export of fresh fruits and vegetables; between major export markets and target markets, are different. Considering the trend and direction of the export of fresh fruits and vegetables to target markets, we can consider that this export quantity to the major export markets will be significant if the relationship between the major export markets and the target markets will show some relevant directions. Considering the export price of these products is almost always different between the major export markets and the target markets. Because the target markets are geographically farther away from Thailand. The exporters often set the price of their products independently in each single market. Large major import markets of Thai fresh fruits and vegetables are frequent customers and Thailand should try to maintain its share by promoting and continuing to encourage the export to these markets. The export expansion to the same target markets such as Japan, France and the United Kingdom should also be promoted by means of sale promotion.
