The objective of the investigation discussed in this paper was to study the effect of the basic chemical properties of soils under peas, onion and cabbage on the number of microorganisms (total bacteria count, free aerobic N-fixing bacteria, azotobacters, fungi, actinomycetes) and dehydrogenase activity. Dehydrogenase activity was found in a positive correlation with the content of carbon (C), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K). Carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) were also positively correlated with the total bacteria count, and the number of azotobacter and actinomycetes. The number of fungi was in a negative correlation with carbon (C), nitrogen (N) and potassium (K).
