Effect of plant density on seed yield and increase leaf area of sunflower

The experiment was conducted in 1993 at the research field of Institute for Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad (Yugoslavia). Three hybrids were studied NS-H-43, NS-H-26-Rm and NS-DH-35 at six different densities: 50,000; 60,000; 70,000; 80,000; 90,000 and 100,000 plants/ha. An increase in plant number per area unit decreased the leaf area per plant and increase the leaf area index (LAI). The largest seed yield was achieved on the plant density of 50,000 plants/ha at all the hybrids. An increase of plant density slightly increased the oil content in a seed of sunflower.
