Due to various agroecological conditions in Yugoslavia as well as changes of certain climatic factors in the last few years, there exists a growing need for developing varieties of spring wheat. The breeding program attempting to fulfil it has so far yielded several excellent varieties, the most prominent of which are Nevesinjka and Venera. Nevesinjka variety is marked by high genetic potential for yield and can be successfully cultivated on all sowing dates and in all areas. In addition to high genetic yield potential, Venera variety also boasts excellent technological quality of bread and flour. In regard to yield, it performs best if sown late in the autumn or early in the spring. Last but not the least, it is highly adaptable and grows at all altitudes.
