[Fodder supply and milk yields on continuous short-grass pastures [in Switzerland]]
1996
Thomet, P. | Hadorn, M. (Schweizerische Ingenieurschule fuer Landwirtschaft (SIL), Zollikofen (Switzerland))
The nutritive value of 23 examined continuously grazed swards was regular over the whole season from April to September. In some pastures with white clover dominance extreme high crude protein contents of 240-270 g per kg dry matter were measured. The chemical composition of the herbage dry matter available on parallel continuously and rotationally grazed pastures was similar. The nutritive value of rotationally grazed swards was lower at the end of May (reproductive growth of grasses). It is concluded that continuous grazing management allows a constant and high milk yield per cow to be obtained during the grazing season
