Ex situ biodiversity conservation by seed storage: multiple-criteria keys to estimate seed storage behaviour
1997
Hong, T.D. | Ellis, R.H. (The University of Reading, Reading (United Kingdom). Department of Agriculture)
The majority of species of Spermatophyta show orthodox seed storage behaviour. Ex situ biodiversity conservation by long-term seed storage is feasible in such species, provided seed storage behaviour has been identified. Publications on this topic cover less than 3 % of the species of Spermatophyta, however. The development of multiple-criteria keys to estimate likely seed storage behaviour may aid decisions on appropriate methods of biodiversity conservation for the remaining 97 %. The pattern of variation in seed storage behaviour among Acer spp. provides an illustration of such keys
