The effect of biotin and seed-oils on the performance of growing-fattening pigs

The effect of biotin and seed-oils on pigs performance was studied in 81 growing and 27 fattening pigs. The pigs were divided into three groups of 27 pigs in growing period and 9 in prefattening and fattening one. The ration of group A (control) was formulated without oils and biotin addition. In the rations of group B added soya-oil and corn-oil (50:50) by 4% for growing and 3% for fattening periods respectively. The group C was fed with the rations of group B in which were added 200, 150 and 100 microg biotin kg for growing, preffatening and fattening periods respectively. Feed consumption was ad libitum. The results indicated that the inclusion of oils caused a significant reduction of feed consumption. The addition of biotin caused a significant improvement of feed efficiency in growing period. The carcass characteristics were similar between treatments but the percentage fatty acids composition of subcutaneous adipose tissue was different.
