Studies on the population abundance and the potency of orange beetle (Coccinella spp.) to control Aphis spp.

anglais. Studies on the population abundance of orange beetle (C. transfersalis) and C. arcuata has been conducted since 1989 at Gowa, Takalar, and Jeneponto, South Sulawesi. The potency of the beetles to prey Aphis spp. was studied at the entomology laboratory of the Research Station for Tobacco and Fiber Crops in 1990. The aim of the study was to evaluate the populations abundance and the effectiveness of the two beetles in controlling Aphis spp. The population abundance of the beetles in each area was observed in one hectare acreage, where 25 plants were sampled. The potency of the beetles in preying Aphis spp. was studied at the laboratory, in a completely randomized design with three replications. From the studies, it was revealed that the population abundance of C. transfersalis were 12-28 and C. arcuata 10-38 per 25 plant. Coccinella transfersalis potentially controlled 27-33 Aphis sp., while C. arcuata 36-40 per day. Coccinela arcuata more wildly preyed Aphis spp. than C. transfersalis

inconnu. Studi populasi dua species kumbang oranye (Coccinella transfersalis dan Coccinella arcuata) sudah dilakukan tahun 1989 di Gowa, Takalar dan Jeneponto Sulawesi Selatan, sedangkan potensi kedua kumbang tersebut memangsa Aphis spp. dilakukan di laboratorium Entomologi Sub Balai Penelitian Tembakau dan Tanaman Serat tahun 1990. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kelimpahan populasi dan keefektivannya sebagai agensia pengendali Aphis spp. Kelimpahan populasi kumbang oranye pada setiap wilayah diamati pada hamparan satu hektar dengan menetapkan 25 tanaman contoh sedangkan potensinya sebagai pemangsa Aphis spp. dipelajari di laboratorium, dengan menyusun empat perlakuan dalam rancangan acak lengkap dengan tiga ulangan. Dalam studi ini, tercatat kisaran kelimpahan populasi kumbang oranye jenis C. transfersalis 12-18 dan C. arcuata 10-38 ekor per 25 tanaman. Sedangkan potensi C. transfersalis sebagai agensia pengendali Aphis sp. berkisar 27-33 ekor dan C. arcuata 36-40 ekor per hari.
