The effect of feeding poultry layers litter on lambs performance and tissues contents of uric acid, copper and zinc

One hundred and twenty lambs fed three rations different in protein supplement contents. The first ration contained soybean oil meal while the second and the third rations contained 10 and 15 layers litter respectively. The experiment included 3 feeding periods. In the first period all lambs fed the three rations for 74 days. The results of average daily gains were 186.1, 163.8 and 156.6 gm, by lambs fed 0,10, and 15 layers litter respectively. In the second feeding period only 30 lambs remained to be fed continuously the same 3 rations for 66 days. The average daily gains were 225.7, 203.0 and 206.8 gm. for lambs fed 0, 10 and 15 layers litter in their rations respectively. In the third feeding period only 12 lambs were continuously fed the same 3 rations for 72 days. The blood and liver contents of these animals showed normal levels of uric acid, Cu and Zn. The internal tissues appeared to be normal and the meat qualities were good in all animals fed layers litter in their rations for more than 7 months
