The purpose of this report is to clarify changes of structure of green covered space; forest, farmland, grassland, water-grassland and water within the city center and its vicinities in Tokyo metropolitan area since the Edo era and how public green open spaces have been stocked, through a comparison with a result of previous studies on the relationships between the urban structure based on green covered space and other factors. As the result, it was confirmed that in the city center and its vicinities, the relationship between green covered spaces and natural factors such as topography and population density (at night) has become weak, and this is closely related to artificial factors such as city planning, private-public development, etc. At the same time, these artificial factors have contributed the establishment of small-scale green covered spaces such as public parks and common open spaces, and such areas of green covered space have increased a little in the city center and its vicinities. And finally, the characteristics of green covered space and not so much as private space which should be conserved as the artificial, semi-public and common open spaces established as a result of development
