[Plant species and inert materials for the control of weevil Sitophilus zeamais (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) on maize stored]

anglais. A study was conducted to evaluate the effect of 105 plant species and 4 mineral substances on mortality and emergence of the F1 of maize weevil Sitophilus zeamais. These materials were subjected to a drying and pulverizing process; afterwards, corn grain was mixed with the material at a 1 dosage, and ten pairs of six day old maize weevil were added. Mortality was determined 15 days after beginning the experiment and emergence percentage of F1 with respect to the control was determined 55 days after beginning the experiment. The best treatments were evaluated at 0.5 and 0.1 dosage, and the duration of its effectiveness was determined. The results obtained showed that Hippocratea sp., Pimenta dioica, the inert dust from "Chichonal" volcano and heavy teckies were the most promising. This conclusion is supported by the fact that the maize weevil showed a mortality higher than 20 percent at 1 and 0.5 dosages; at the same time, this insect showed a reduction in the F1 emergence greater than 50 in relation to the control.

Se evaluo el efecto de los polvos de 105 especies vegetales y de cuatro sustancias de origen mineral sobre la mortalidad y emergencia de la F1 del gorgojo del maiz Sitophilus zeamais Motsch. Para obtener los polvos, dichos materiales se sometieron a un proceso de secado y pulverizado, posteriormente se mezclaron con el grano a dosis de 1 (1 g de polvo en 100 g de maiz) y se agregaron 10 parejas de insectos de 6 dias de edad. A los 15 dias se determino el porcentaje de mortalidad y a los 55 dias el de emergencia de la F1 con respecto al testigo. Los mejores tratamientos se obtuvieron con dosis de 0.5 y 0.1, y se determino la duracion de su efectividad. Las plantas que presentaron resultados prometedores fueron Hippocratea sp. y Pimenta dioica; de los inertes, el polvo del volcan "Chichonal" y teckies pesado, ya que a dosis de 1 y 0.5 ocasionaron una mortalidad superior al 20 porciento y una reduccion en la emergencia de la F1, con relacion al testigo, mayor del 50; estos fueron tambien, los tratamientos mas consistentes en cuanto a la duracion de su efectividad.
