Genetic variability for yield and some other characters were assessed in 14 hybrids of sunflower. The genotypic and phenotypic variances were high for yield, plant height and oil content. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance (expressed as percentage of means) for yield and oil content, indicated the influence of additive effect. High heritability with low genetic advance for plant height and diameter of capitulum reflected dominant and epistatic nature of inheritance. Most of the characters showed positive correlation with yield except 100 seed weight and days to maturity, which were negatively correlated with yield.
