Different varieties of rabbi and kharif fodders were analyzed at different growth stages/cuttings for cell wall constituents. In berseem, Agaiti variety showed higher neutral detergent fibre (NDF), hemicellulose and lignin. Cellulose and acid detergent fibre (ADF) were higher in Composite while silica was higher in Khudravi variety. In lucerne, hemicellulose was higher in 8x9 and Sonora varieties. In oats, lignin was greater in PD2LV65 variety, NDF and ADF in Kent and Swan, cellulose in Kent and silica in Avon. While hemicellulose showed non-significant differences among varieties. In sorghum, lignin and silica were greater in JS263 variety, while NDF, ADF, hemicellulose and cellulose were greater in No. 94 variety. In multicut bajra NDF, lignin and cellulose were greater in Honat variety. All varieties had similar hemicellulose contents. The fibre fractions increased progressively with increased maturity stage/cutting frequency in all fodder varieties. This might have negative effect on palatability and digestibility of fodders. This information can form the basis to determine a suitable stage at which the fodder should be cut without adversely affecting the quality.
