Evaluation of sweetpotato clones for agronomic and processing traits

The field trial was carried out during December 1995 to April 1996 at Pichit Horticultural Research Center [Thailand] to evaluate the agronomic and processing characteristics of 26 sweetpotato clones. After harvest, the starch content of roots was analyzed by the Agricultural Chemistry Division of the Department of Agriculture in Bangkok. Nine promising clones with white flesh, namely, CIP 11-2, CIP 12-4, CIP 23-9, P no. 4 op-31, CIP 12-5, CIP 14-1 UPLSP 3 CIP 23-4 and PIS 129-6 were identified to: 1) give marketable yield of more than 15 t/ha and, 2) contain starch higher than 20 percent on wet basis
