Effect of feed mixtures containing crushed rape seeds on fatty acid composition and cholesterol content in tissues of fattened pigs

From 36 to 106 kg body weight 75 porkers divided into 4 groups were given feed mixture supplemented with 0, 5, 8, 12% crushed OO rape seeds. Two kinds of adipose tissue (leaf and back fat) and 2 kinds of muscular tissue (longissimus muscle and leg semimembraneous muscle) were sampled and analysed. Fatty acid content was determined by gas chromatography, the cholesterol content by colorimetric method. In comparison to control the increase of rape seed proportion in diets reduced saturated acid contents and significantly increased polyunsaturated acid contents in tested tissues. However, the supplement of rape seeds to diets did not significantly reduce the total cholesterol content in examined tissues
