In the experiment within 1987-95 on permanent meadow on acid loamy soil (400 m altitude) the effects of N fertilization at rates (kg/ha) 0, 80, 160, 240, 320, against the background of 100 kg P2O5 and 150 kg K2O per ha, on dry matter yields and floristic composition of the sward were studied. Dry matter yields systematically increased at the rate 240 kg N/ha, while the best fertilization efficiency was obtained at 80 and 160 kg N/ha. The share of grasses such as cocksfoot, timothy and anuual meadow grass in the sward increased with N fertilization whereas the meadow fescue content was rather stable
