The limits of the hydraulic operation of on-demand pressurized irrigation systems are usually defined through probability methods which enable to design the system based on the forecast of peak seasonal requirements. Since these models are based on simplifying assumptions, the parameters taken for design need to be checked on the field. For this purpose, in an irrigation district of Capitanata (Foggia-Italy), the continuous measurement of supplied discharges was taken during the whole irrigation season 1991; the availability of experimental data, through the use of a stochastic procedure, has thus enabled to determine the actual values of the use coefficient of the network, the specific continuous discharge and the cumulative probability. The study showed that the use coefficient has to be considered case. It interprets the actual behaviour of farmers, so that values considerable different from the design ones indicate a substantial change in the system in terms of socio-economic and cropping pattern conditions and of the ways of water delivery.
