The response of four maize hybrids to Striga asiatica (L.) Kuntze infestation at different nitrogen levels: Preliminary results

A pot trial was conducted at the University of Zimbabwe between November 1994 and April 1995 to evaluate the performance of four three-way maize hybrids (R215, PNR 473, PHB 3435, and CG 4141) infested with Striga asiatica and topdressed with varying rates of nitrogen applied at 0, 17.25, 34.5, 51.75, and 69.0 kg N/ha. The S. asiatica seeds were applied at a rate of 0.012 g/pot to give an infestation rate of about 1000 seeds/pot.
