Influence of the limited densities on the yield and yield components in winter wheat

In winter wheat, in some conditions (unfavourable whether factors, wrong evaluation) density of field could be reduced. For this reason it has been considered useful to make an experiment with more reduced densities (40, 6080, 100 and 200 plants/m2) parallel to normal variants (300, 400 and 500 plant/m2) with the object of establishing of minimum acceptable densities which could provide economically profitable grain yields. Last years (1992 - 1994) there wereused two wheat cultivars Albota and Fundulea 4 cultivated according to recommended technology. It had been found that, the minimum density for obtaining of a good yield was of 100 plants/m2. When the density ranged between 100 and 500 plant/m2 the yield were not significantly differentiated. In the variants with the lower densities, as a result of abundant tillering and of formation of a higher number of grains or of some heavier grains it was registered an yield compensation. This proves that restoration capacity of wheat cultivars is particularly great. For the purpose of stimulating of this capacity should be used normal technology. Also, it have been found the direct, favourable correlations between productive tillering and grain number on ear (tillering coefficient = 0,47** ), between productive tillering and thousand grain weight (coefficient = 0,22* ) and between grain number on ear and thousand grain weight (coefficient = +0,45** ). At lower densities, between 40 and 80 plants/m2, have been created conditions for weed emergence and growth. At density of 100 and 500 plant/m2 there are not conditions for development of weeds.
