Law of breeding break for cross-pollinating crops
1995
Anashchenko, A.V.
The method of recurrent periodical breeding used by Pustovoit can be considered as a week inbreeding, when crossings the sibs in three consecutive generations. A strong inzucht and the selection for a desired property (the low husk percentage, for example) accelerate the expression of the breeding effect by seven-nine times, which was proved in experiments with a high number of sunflower collection samples. Rape forms, containing no erucic acid were developed from three-five inzucht generations followed by selection. Ten alfalfa sublines with 85 % autogamy resulted from three inzucht generations and the selection for high seed yields. On the basis of published and experimental data, the law of the breeding break has been derived for cross-pollinating crops
