Exploitation of natural resources by beef cattle production
1995
Alpar, G. (Pannon Univ., Kaposvar (Hungary). Animal Science Fac.)
Even though Hungarian territory is not big different regions provide different conditions for the production of certain arable and feed crops as well as for certain ways of animal production. Grasslands of 1,2 million ha are almost unexploited. Our study shows that production site conditions and the characteristics of feed production are principal factors in the beef cattle branch. A model was established to analyze production unit of 100 beef cattle and their progeny. Regarding feeding cost the optimal solution is the grassland based feeding of heavier (600 kg) cows with spring calving.
