Effect of climatope factors on the dynamics of diameter increment

Diameter increment of tree or stand is an important biometric characteristic due to its sensitive response to external climatope and pedotope factors as well as to anthropogenic influences. Findings on the influence of external factors, mainly of climatope and pedotope, on the dynamics of increment (establishment, development and present state of beech growth) on experimental ecological plots (EES) in the Kremnicke hills (Kovacova) are presented. It was found that diameter growth was decisively influenced by position in the stand (Fig. 1). The course and values of diameter increment were influenced by extreme climatic factors, mainly precipitation. Humid conditions were manifested in relation to density and to tree classes (Fig. 4). Compared with 1994, current diameter increment is half the size. The second factor analysed is soil quality. The course of diameter increment in the upper and lower part of the slope is given in Fig. 5. Depth, humidity and physical qualities of soil influenced the diameter increment to the extent of 40 %. The trend of the influence of changed ecological conditions on fir diameter increment is presented in Fig. 6
